Dog Grooming Duncan Dogs Keeps Them And You Happier

By Susan Hamilton

Pet grooming is an important part of pet ownership. Not only do canines looks and smell better when they are groomed, but they also feel better. Matted fur can be quite uncomfortable, it can cause the pooch pain. When it comes to dog grooming Duncan residents can do some things to make it easier on the animal, the groomer, and themselves.

Take a few minutes away from oohing and awing over his or her cuteness and grab a brush. Brush that fur so your lovable pooch gets used to it. This will go a long way to making the process of grooming the dog a lot easier. You can begin doing this as soon as the first day that the pup is brought home. When you do this, brushing is a normal part of life for your pet, not something new, foreign and scary.

Think about how the pooch will be touched and handled by the groomer. Mimic these same touches so that the canine gets used to it. Doing this allows the pup to feel less tense because it's something that they have felt before, it's a familiar experience.

Sound is something else that can cause a pup to feel scared and nervous. Instead of letting the puppy walk into this blindly, mimic the sounds at home. Turn on the blow dryer and let the animal know that it won't hurt them. Run the water, turn on a pair of clippers. Do this several times so the animal accepts them as normal household sounds. This lets them know that the sounds don't indicate danger.

Socialize the animal as much as possible. Socialization is always important for any dogs, so this step will help with much more than the animal's time at the salon, it will help in everyday situations as well. The more socialized that a dog is, the better for him or her. A well socialized dog is a happy dog.

Take the time to learn about the breed that you've chosen. Some breeds need a lot of grooming, while others are a much easier to keep neat. As a rule, the long haired breeds need to be brushed more often. If they aren't, they will get mats which are unsightly and painful to the animal.

Brush canines between visits. Again depending on the breed, your particular animal could require daily brushing in order to keep their coat tangle free. When the dog is not tangled, the entire process is easier for all involved.

These helpful tips are designed to make things easier for your pooch, and for you. When your animal doesn't have fear when they are brought in for their appointment it makes the entire day more pleasant for all involved. Taking the small amount of time needed to prepare your pet is well worth the effort.
