What Determines Vending Machine Placement

By Ruth Gibson

Normally when people are walking around with loose change, they easily end up buying things. This happens whether one is walking in a mall, an office or even at a grocery store. Getting the ideal location for vending machine placement will determine the success of your venture.

The location of your appliance will be determined by what you are selling. Most of these machines sell chips, chocolate bars, sodas and other snacks. Some may sell coffee and other hot beverages. In most cases, they are placed in cafeterias, lunchrooms, or the snack sector of a store. These machines are attractively designed to make sure that when you pass them, even if it was not your intention to buy, you will end up buying something.

People mainly tend to pass through places where they feel safe. The same applies to when they are buying. It is very hard for one to steal from a quality machine. Therefore, you do not have to worry about vandalism. The chosen location should be safe and easily accessible. Very few people will go to buy anything at a place that is poorly lit especially at night.

Considering that no one is involved in calling people to buy the items, it is only logical that you place the appliance at a place with many people. This will ensure that it seen easily and can be accessed. Most people who buy snacks from these machines are impulse buyers. You need it to be attractive and well stocked, in order to attract the maximum number of buyers.

People are very likely to snack on something while waiting or when idle. In this case, you should target areas where people spend time waiting. This can be at the train stations, airports as well as hospital waiting rooms. Places where people are likely to stop while in transit are also good spots. This are places like gas stations and bathrooms. The machines should also be very attractive, to ensure that people are quickly drawn to them.

When locating the vending equipment you will need to speak to the owner of this place you want to place it. If you are placing it in a shop or a supermarket, you need to convince the owner to place it somewhere where it is visible and not stick it in the back. You will also need to agree on the price that they will charge you for using their premises.

You can choose to go looking for the site yourself, or you can choose to hire a company to determine the placement for you. They will do this by either sending someone to the location, or making phone calls. Before paying the company you use, confirm with the owner of the site to that they actually agreed and that the company spoke to the right person.

As a businessperson, you should always be on the lookout for new opportunities. When you hear of a new office, shop or mall opening, you should start making inquiries about whether you can place your machine within the premises. This should be done before a number of months before the opening, to ensure the spot is not given to someone more aggressive.
